Property History

Built in the 1890s by a well liked local attorney and politician, Walter Ritter, the house remained with the family until the 1970s when it was purchased and turned into four apartments. Falling on hard times the house was soon sold to the present family who has cared for it since 1975. For many years the original owners used the house as a tourist home or what today we call a bed and breakfast.

Property Description

Own a fortress and sanctuary. As the present owner and someone whose business has been the restoration of historic buildings, this house is one of the most solidly built that I have ever worked on. With four units you can live a very comfortable life and have others paying your bills. Stained glass and natural woodwork throughout. Well appointed kitchens and baths. A concreted basement and perhaps the most enormous attics you have ever seen. The carriage block also has an attic and two more garages attached along with a conservatory to aid with caring for an Italian garden with antique fountain and other garden ornaments as well as a collection of specimen trees and shrubs usually only found in arboretums. The place really should be seen to be appreciated. The apartments are always regarded as some of the nicest available in the area. Conveniently located near major roads, Williamsport is within easy driving to Manhattan as well as Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington DC. Located on one of the planets oldest rivers, the Susquehanna, there is ample opportunity for sport and recreation.  The annual Little League World Series is played only a few blocks away. Williamsport itself offers much more than would be expected of a city its size in the realm of culture, the arts and cuisine. Two major medical centers are in the area as well as two colleges. The opportunity for a very nice, safe and exciting life can await you regardless of age. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or to schedule a visit.

Additional Notes

The property basically has had only two owners in over 125 years.

The new owners can either transform the house back into a single family home or maintain it as three or four apartments choosing to live in either one or two of the apartments.  If the entire house is rented it can generate up to $70,000 annually  If it is used as an Airbnb it can generate twice that.  There are many options available.  Presently two of the second floor apartments are rented and the present owner lives in the other two downstairs.  His current intention is to rent out the main apartment downstairs also.  So as you can see the house allows for many different living and financial opportunities.  It really is a one of a kind property in many ways.  All that is needed is the next person to love it
